The Labyrinth

Let Your Steps Be Those of Peace

Walking the Labyrinth is a very old form of walking meditation that is practiced in many religious traditions. As such, it is a sort of interfaith method of prayer and contemplation, helping us to quiet our minds and to reconnect with the Divine.

Most of us have been taught from childhood to sit still while we pray and to let our experience be only an inward focus. However, many people find that, when walking the Labyrinth, they have an inward experience and also bring intentions out into their physical awareness as well, so that each step becomes a tangible expression of prayerful intention. We walk the Labyrinth's single path into the Center and then, transformed, return by the same path to our worldly life. It can be a powerful spiritual practice.

First & Central Church's Labyrinth, located in Memorial Hall directly below the sanctuary, is open on Wednesdays, from 11 am until 7 pm, and on the fourth Sunday of every month, from 9:30 am until 1 pm. We invite you to come and walk at any time during those hours. It usually takes about a half an hour to walk, but you may stay for as long or short a period as you like.
