- Kent County, Maryland: Smithers/Smothers from old Baltimore County arrived here circa 1714
- Kent County, Delaware: Smithers/Smothers from Maryland arrived here as early as 1699.
- Orange County, North Carolina: Smothers (from Delaware?) arrived here by 1784.
- Macon/Sumner County, Tennessee: Smothers from North Carolina arrived here circa 1795-1810.
- Franklin County, Illinois: Smothers from Tennessee arrived here circa 1820-1860.
- Wayne County, Illinois: Smothers from Tennessee arrived here circa 1845-1855.
- Clay County, Illinois: Smothers moved here from nearby Wayne County in the mid-to-late 1800's.
- Laclede County, Missouri: Smothers from Illinois arrived here circa 1872.
- Jasper County, Missouri: Smothers moved here (Joplin) from nearby Laclede County circa 1898.
- Los Angeles County, California: Smothers from Missouri arrived here circa 1914.
- St. Lucie County, Florida: Smothers from California arrived here (Ft. Pierce) 1969.
- New Castle County, Delaware: Smothers from Florida arrive in Delaware in 1983.
