Please note that my research interests focus on the 19th
century British and Indian Armies, 1800 to 1914.Do not ask me to
do WWI research. I will be happy to respond to simple straightforward
questions but I regret that I cannot take on research requiring large blocks
of time (this includes the research of individual soldiers) unless you
wish to make a contribution to my collection in the form of a fee or some
other agreed to compensation (You could donate an original photo,
CDV or Cabinet, for example).
My fee is $25.00 an hour and expenses are additional. These expenses
generally include items such as copy costs, charges for information from
outside sources, and postage and packing. Unless otherwise arranged, my general
rule of operation is to receive two hours of payment in advance. Experience
has shown that very little of substance can be done in less than two hours.
If it should turn out that your request requires less time than the full
two hours I shall refund the unused portion of your money.
Please note that it is abslotutely necessary to have a soldiers full name, his REGIMENT for records up to 1872, his service branch (Cavalry, Corps, Infantry etc.) for records 1873-1882, and his approximate period of service before research may even be considered. The records related to a soldiers service are organized by regiment up to 1872 so it is not possible to search for a soldiers service without his regiment before this date. The one exception to this is for long service (21 years or more) soldiers discharged before 1855. It is possible to search without his period of service but it will likely be more expensive. Do Not Guess about these details. You might get lucky but the probability is that you will simply be waisting your money and time.
Other details on a soldier that can be provided will simplify the search process and provide further verification for the accuracy of the results. These details include such things as the soldiers regimental number, campaigns that he served in, and transfers to other regiments for example. Again do not guess, if the evidence is slim state that you are not sure when providing a soldiers details.
I can also provide information on the services of a particular regiment
1800-1914.
Please note that I have received a significant number of requests
for information outside of my area of specialization. I am not sure why
this happens, but if you send me a request outside of my area of specialization,
please do not be upset if I respond with, "I don't know", or do not respond
at all depending on how busy I am at the time.
Thank you,
Fred Larimore.
